I survived the Mayes County Fair

It was a long exciting and rewarding weekend and I survived the Mayes County Fair 2014. I got to work with some amazing 4-H & FFA kids and families. It was also hot, and sweaty (for about half of the time). It was dusty and dirty most of the time but I loved all of it. Over 4200 photos were uploaded for online purchasing between the two days of the horse show and the four days of goats, lambs, dairy, pigs, beef, poultry awards and premium sale.

While this was my first time as the full time official photographer for the Mayes County Fair, it is far from my first ever. If remember, way way back, my first fair was 1990 or 91, with a black Maine Anjou heifer who's name was Black Gold, Goldie for short. The next several years brought more hard work and new beef projects: Missy, Dawn, Blossom, Biggin, Scooby, Rosie, Wrangler and many more. 4-H and FFA are great organizations and I can't say enough about what they do for the youth of today and our future leaders of tomorrow.

That's why the weekend of long hours and hard work meant the world to me.

My son's 8 and this year was his first Mayes County Fair as an animal exhibitor in the open poultry show, even though he has one more year before officially being a 4-H exhibitor. While I was busy taking photos I did miss him competing for showmanship in the poultry division. I however, did shut down the backdrop photos so I could sit in on the poultry awards when it was announced he won. I was an excited momma. Squirt won Jr Showmanship and Champion with his Rhode Island Red hen "Rosie." He also won ribbons for his Rhode Island Red rooster "Cleo" and his duck. Somehow he wound up with about 15 more "show" chickens by the end of the weekend too.

I took many many more photos (over 4200) and are available for purchase http://www.kristytroyerphotography.com/2014mayescountyfair. Thank you for those that have continued to support.
