Seven Mayes County Teams Playing in Area - Basketball

Mayes County has seven teams still in the hunt for the ticket to State games and the “Gold Ball.” All but one team is in win or out situations this weekend. Here’s a breakdown for weekend games:

Chouteau Boys – Chouteau fell last week to Preston a team they had split with during regular season play. The loss pushed the Wildcats into a consolation bracket and a win or out situation. Their first challenge comes Thursday at 3 p.m. in Kingfisher against Cordell. Chouteau boys enter the game 21-4 and #7. Cordell is 19-8 this season. If the Wildcats win Thursday they will face the winner of Millwood (12-17)/Hooker (#16, 22-4) at Friday at 3 p.m. in Kingfisher. The winner of Friday’s game plays the loser of Preston (#9, 18-10)/Merrit (Undefeated #3), Saturday at 8 p.m. in Kingfisher. The winner of Saturday’s game gets the ticket to the State finals.

Adair Boys – The Warriors is also in a win or out situation, fighting their way through Regional consolation brackets. Adair (16-10) first faces Nowata (#19, 16-7) at 3 p.m. Thursday in Cleveland. They must win to play the winner of Sperry (#8, 19-7)/Metro Christian (#16, 15-11) at 3 p.m. Friday in Cleveland. The winner of that game faces the loser of Verdigris (#3, 20-6)/Lincoln Christian (#11, 21-5) at 8 p.m. Saturday in Cleveland. The winner of Saturday’s game heads to State Finals.

They are one win away from their 12th consecutive trip to the State Tournament. The Lady Warriors (#1, 23-2) face Verdigris (#16, 17-9) at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Cleveland. If the girls win they get their ticket to State punched. The loser faces the winner of the consolation brackets (Metro Christian (#7, 21-4)/Salina (13-13), Kansas (#9, 22-4)/Newkirk (#15, 20-6) on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Cleveland. The winner of Saturday’s games heads to State.

 

salina_vs_morris_basketball-1064salina_vs_morris_basketball-1064 Salina Girls – The Lady Wildcats (13-13) fought their way through Regionals to make a bid at Area this weekend. They first face Metro Christian (#7, 21-4) at 1:30 Thursday in Cleveland. Winner of Thursday’s game faces the winner of Kansas (#9, 22-4)/Newkirk (#15, 20-6) in Cleveland at 1:30 p.m. Thursday’s winner faces the loser of Adair (#1, 23-2)/Verdigris (#16, 17-9) Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Cleveland. The winner of Saturday’s game heads to State finals.

Locust Grove Girls – The Lady Pirates (18-9) fell to undefeated #1 Ft Gibson (26-0) last Saturday at the Regional Championship game. This has put the Locust Grove girls into a win or out situation. Their first challenge will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. against Grove (14-12) in Skiatook. The winner of Thursdays game will play the winner of Hilldale (#18, 20-7) /Victory Christian (#17, 18-8) Friday at 1:30 in Skiatook. The winner of Friday’s game will play the loser of Ft Gibson/Vinita (#5, 25-1) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Skiatook. Saturday’s winner will head to State Finals.

Pryor Girls – The girls (#9, 15-10) must win two games this week, after falling to Tahlequah by 3 points in the Regional Finals last week, to advance to State next week. The Pryor girls will face Del City (#14, 9-16) at 8 p.m. Thursday at Memorial in Tulsa.  The winner of that game will play Saturday at 3 at Memorial against the loser of Shawnee (#3, 20-5)/East Central (#2, 21-4). The winner of Saturday’s game advances to State next week.

Their first opponent will be Northwest Classen (#8, 14-9) Friday at Will Rogers, Tulsa at 8 p.m. The winner of Friday’s game will face the loser of Collinsville (#11, 15-10)/Claremore (#3, 23-2), Saturday in Jenks at 8 p.m.
