"Gold Ball Chasin'" kicks into high gear this weekend.Two Mayes County teams are rocking out a final weekend in Basketball at the State Tournament this week, chasing that "Gold Ball."
Locust Grove Lady Pirates upset #5 Vinita Saturday by 1 point late in the game to get their ticket punched to State this week. The Lady Pirates are headed into the Quarter finals with a record of 20-9 and unranked. Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at the State Fair of Oklahoma Fairgrounds arena they will face #2 (25-1) Harrah. Harrah's single loss came from 6A #2 Choctaw early in the season. The winner of the Locust Grove/Harrah game will play the winner of Thursday's 7 p.m. Fairgrounds Arena game, Ada (#4 21-4)/Classen SAS (#3 28-2) at 4:30 Friday at the Fairgrounds Arena in the semi final game. The opposite side of the bracket includes Ft Gibson (#1 27-0) vs Newcastle (#10 20-6), Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Fairgounds and Broken Bow (#8 22-5) vs Anadarko (#6 23-4) 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fairgrounds. The winners in those two games face off at 10:30 a.m. at the Fairgrounds. Class 4A finals will be at 12:15 p.m. Saturday at the Fairgrounds.
