February to March Madness

It's that time of year in Mayes County, basketball teams are closing in on the season end goal, the gold ball.

This is what it looks like for teams this week:

2A - Chouteau:

Chouteau Boys are ranked #7 with a record of 20-3. They lost to OK Christian Academy (44-47) in the Agra Tournament in December, to #Preston in early January by 8 points and to 3A Kansas by 5 points also in early January. The Wildcats journey to state out of the District Title game starts Thursday night at 8 p.m. in Kiefer against Pawnee. Pawnee is not ranked with a record of 13-8. If Chouteau wins Thursday, the wildcats move to Regional finals on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Kiefer against the winner of Preston and Northeast Academy. Both Regional Champion and Runner-up advance to Area next weekend in Kingfisher. If the Wildcats fall Thursday, they will have to win two games in a row Friday night at 8 against the winner of Stroud/Millwood and Saturday at 3 p.m.

Chouteau Girls are unranked with a record of 15-9. Their first foe in Regional playoff action is against Pawnee Thursday in Kiefer at 6:30 p.m. The girls squeaked past Kiefer last week by two points to claim District Champions. Pawnee is also unranked with a record of 14-8. If the Lacy Wildcats win they will advance to Regional Finals against the winner of Preston/Millwood, Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Kiefer. If they fall, the girls will have to win two in a row to advance, Friday at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of Stroud/Crossings Christian and Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

 

2A Area competition next week will be in Kingfisher.

3A - Adair:

 

Adair girls captured their 12th straight District Title last week with a win over Salina. They are ranked #1 with a record of 21-2. The Lady Warriors two losses came in the Tournament of Champions against 4A #1 Fort Gibson and 5A #3 East Central. Their first opponent in the playoff schedule will be Morris Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Adair. If the girls win they advance to the Regional Finals at 6:30 p.m. Saturday against the winner of Kellyville/Newkirk in Adair. Both Regional Champion and Runner-up advance to Area. The loser of Thursday's game plays Friday against the winner of Chelsea/Lincoln Christian at 1:30. The consolation finals will be 1:30 Saturday where only the winner advances to Area.

Adair boys fell last 47-51 week to Salina and will have to play and win 3 in a row to continue in the season. The Warriors (13-10) first face Morris (2-20) Thursday at 3 p.m. in Adair. The winner will play the looser of Kellyville/Lincoln Christian on Friday at 3 p.m.. The winner of that game plays again Saturday at 3 p.m. Only the winner of the consolation bracket advances to Area.

 

3A - Salina:

 

Salina boys bested Adair to claim District Champs last week. Salina's record going into Regional competition is 11-12. They first will face Sherry at 8 p.m. Thursday in Adair. Sperry is ranked #8 with a record of 18-6. The winner of Thursday's game will advanced to Regional finals at 8 p.m. Saturday against the winner of Kellyville/Lincoln Christian. Both Regional Champ and Runner-up advance to Area. The loser of Thursday's game will fall into the consolation bracket and must win 2 more games in two nights to continue with their season. The loser will face the winner of the Chelsea/Newkirk game at 3 p.m. Friday in Adair. The consolation bracket final will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Adair. Only the winner of the consolation final game advances to Area.

 

Salina girls are already in the consolation bracket and must win 3 games this weekend to advanced to Area. The Lady Wildcats face Sperry first at 1:30 Thursday in Adair. Sperry heads in with a record of 9-14, Salina with 10-13. The winner of Thursday's game plays the loser of Kellyville/Newkirk game at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The winner of Friday's game plays in the consolation final at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Adair. Only the winner can advance to Area.

 

Area competition next week for 3A will be in Cleveland.

4A - Locust Grove

The Locust Grove Lady Pirates claimed a District Title last week and face Hilldale Thursday at 6:30 pm in Berryhill. The Lady Pirates have a record 17-8 going into Regional competition. Hilldale is ranked #18 with a record of 18-6. The winner of Thursday's game head to the Regional Finals at 6:30 pm in Ft. Gibson against the winner of Ft. Gibson/Claremore Sequoyah. Both the winner and runner-up of the finals head to Area next week. The loser of Thursday's game falls into the consolation bracket facing the winner of Wagoner/Will Rogers at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Ft. Gibson. The consolation final is at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Ft. Gibson, where only the winner advance to Area.

 

The boys fell short last week and enter the Regional competition in the consolation bracket, forcing them to win 3 back to back games this weekend. They face Hilldale at 3 p.m. Thursday in Berryhill. Locust Grove has a record of 7-17, Hilldale 12-12. The winner of Thursday's game faces the loser of the Ft. Gibson/Will Rogers at 8 p.m. Friday in Ft. Gibson. The consolation finals is at 3 p.m. Saturday in Ft. Gibson, where only the winner advances to Area.

 

Area competition next week for 4A will be in Skiatook.

5A - Pryor

Pryor girls head to Tahlequah at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to face Noble for their Regional matchup. Pryor girls are ranked #9 with a record of 14-9. Noble has a record of 8-13. The winner of Thursday's game will play the winner of Tahlequah/Edison Prep at 1:30 pm in Tahlequah. Only the winner advances to Area games next week. 

 

Pryor boys are ranked #17 with a record of 13-10 and will face Tahlequah at Memorial, Friday at 6:30 p.m. Tahlequah ranks #14 with a record of 12-11. The winner of Thursday's game will face the winner of Memorial/McAlester 7 p.m. Saturday at Memorial. Only the winner advances to Area games next week.
