Basketball post season play starts this weekend!Mayes County begins post season basketball games this weekend in the hunt for the Gold Ball. Here's a breakdown:
Adair:
Adair Girls are ranked #3 and have a record of 20 wins and 3 losses. They lost to Salina in the Adair Tournament finals 50-56 in the second week of the season. They lost to Hilldale 4A #8 47-49 in the final at the Locust Grove Tournament. Their final loss came from Tahlequah Sequoyah 3A #5 a few weeks ago with the final score 37-43. Adair Boys are ranked #8 and have a record of 15 wins and 5 loses. Those losses came from Hilldale 4A 55-60 in January, Tahlequah Sequoyah 3A #6 in January and Feburary 52-64 and 51-52, NW Classen 5A #19 at the Pryor Invitational Tournament and to #6 Sperry 59-64 a week ago. This weekend Adair face Tulsa Dove Science at 6:30 (girls) & 8 p.m. (boys) Saturday in Adair. Winner and Runner-up move on next week where Adair also hosts Regionals.
Salina:Salina Lady Wildcats are ranked #10 with a record of 17-6. Losses have come from Kansas 40-51, Locust Grove 42-43, Hilldale 52-61, Adair twice 45-64 & 46-67, Chelsea 56-59. Salina Wildcats are unranked and have a record of 9-14. Both Salina Teams host Nowata for Districts at 6:30 (girls) and 8 p.m. (boys). Win or lose they move on to Regionals in Vian & Verdigris next weekend.
Chouteau: Chouteau girls are not ranked but have had a better year than in recent with a record of 9 wins and 14 losses. Chouteau boys are ranked #7 with a record of 16 wins and 7 losses. Losses came from Adair 3A #8 twice 57-50 & 34-47, Davenport 66-76, Keys 56-63 and Kansas 59-65. Class 2A is large and playoffs start Friday night in Chouteau. Chouteau boys have a bye on Friday and will play the winner of Warner/Summit Christian at 8 p.m. Saturday in Chouteau. Chouteau girls face Summit Christian at 6:30 p.m. Friday, the winner of that game plays Warner at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. All games are in Chouteau. Winner and looser of the Saturday games move on to Regionals. Chouteau hosts the first round of Regionals but Porum will host the last games on Saturday.
Locust Grove: The Lady Pirates are ranked #17 with a record of 13-9. Losses have come from Vinita 49-57, Chelsea 46-55, Ft Gibson twice 42-63 & 48-54, Salina 54-59, Berryhill 48-50 and Hilldale twice 42-69 & 42-62. The Pirates are ranked #8 with a record of 19-3. Losses have been to Verdigris 58-59, Ft Gibson 58-68 and Catoosa in OT 58-61. Both Locust Grove teams face Claremore Sequoyah on Saturday at 6:30 (girls) & 8 p.m. (boys) in Locust Grove. Winner and looser move on to regionals next week where Claremore Sequoyah hosts the first round with finals at Ft Gibson.
Pryor starts Regional action next weekend. Teams will play at Claremore Friday night for the last regular season game.Pryor girls will face Coweta on Thursday, Feb. 24th at 6:30 in Skiatook for regional play. Pryor is currently 12-10, ranked #10. The girls need a win to play at 1:30 p.m. Saturdasy, Feb. 27th against the winner of Skiatook/Southeast also in Skiatook. Winner and runner-up at Regionals move to Area the following weekend. Pryor boys are also ranked #10 with a record of 15-7. The Tigers get to host their regional bracket. They will play Nathan Hale at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26th. The winner will face the winner of East Central/Bishop Kelley at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27th at 7 p.m. Winner and runner-up at Regionals move to Area the following weekend.
